It is often questioned by clients and employers whether the wire framing stage is necessary. comparing this to contract situations where the contract actually calls for wire frames as a requirement. What is it that contract project talent acquisition or project architects know that the others don't?
From a User Experience design perspective of many years, I know what it is like to begin a project by jumping right into design and layout from a graphical perspective versus the creation of architecture via the wire framing construct. This (wireframing) is the project bones of user interfacing and functional elements.
At this point a question arises, if a database developer creates structure in a schema or architecture that depicts data interaction, or at least a simple data definition of tables and fields before creating the database and software engineers draft an outline of code structure as well as working with UX designers on flow charts and usability flow docs, then what reason could you have to not depict user experience via the wireframe before you move to the next phase?
I began this post simply wanting to depict how I went from a simple (and ugly) sketch, the concept, to a proper wire, the wireframe, to the final design, quickly. The depth of this subject changed from the prime purpose of simplicity, efficiency and workflow to that of a debate and also a call to action as the wireframe not only added to the User Experience possibilities, but also to my thought process on the subject.
1. SIMPLICITY, EFFICIENCY and WORKFLOW I was able to concept an idea and get it to the page with little time to pay to it as I wanted it done and done now. This process always helps, "plan your dive and dive your plan!"
2. DEBATE I wanted to, although I didn't intend to, contend the argument that even tho some clients think the wireframe process is costly and some designers don't like it, ultimately it saves time or even better helps flush out something you were not thinking of when you had the original concept floating in your mind.
3. CALL TO ACTION During the visual depiction of the element, I realized I was putting the user in the power position by allowing them to schedule an appointment, strictly at the control of the end client of course, but seemingly to the user they were in control in this scheduling function, leading to a possible good user experience.
Here is a quick teaser from a new project to be launched and revealed soon. This UI/UX icon navigation was designed to make selecting content more interesting and less typical than many others. MASA FL Website Design and Development. Keeping up with MASA Osh Kosh in their engagement of the Aviation public during the years biggest gathering of Aviation professionals and enthusiasts alike, MASA FL brings missionaries together to share their stories and grow awareness for the missions across the globe.
After absorbing the story of how and why, I felt it was a story that needed to be told, allowing more to come and get involved in Aviation missions or support of them.
Development included and integrated Blog, engineered within the content pages to offer specific content that intertwined with the needs of the MASA mission and the missionaries who travel the world and keeping it together.
Although I am not a woman, I do have four kids and remember wondering what they were gonna be. I wondered so much with my second son, in which my wife did not want to know our baby's gender, she allowed me to learn the gender of the baby with one exception, I had to keep it a secret from everyone for the entire term of the preganancy. I suceeded. There is more to the story, a funny bit, drop me a line and I will share it.
So, I had some fun when it came time to design the User interface (UX/UI) for this product.
Food so good, you'll think you're in Heaven. Yum! So what is the connection between Heaven and International Cuisine..........the Heavenly deliciousness with International flair, Duh!
Well, either way I like the design, clouds always make me feel fluffy, but the food displayed on this website makes me feel........well, Heavenly or just hungry?! Located in Arizona, the Cave Creek area, known for a bit of tourism in the wintertime, Heavens Kaffee is launching not only the website, but the restaurant as well, so look for other possible like a menu, some signage, possibly an interactive menu and motion video of the food selections and hopefully some cool social centered promotional campaigns with smart phone tie in. In the words of Ty, Welcome home Digital Ingenuity..........Welcome Home!
Recently Launched to the Internet, a new Blog aptly titled, "The Sovereignty Project", helmed by Tommy Shelton a Pastor on a mission. What is his mission you ask, well Blogging isn't the mission but is part of spreading the Word and attracting followers to the Blog and possibly to the new church currently under way as a Church Plant in the Suncoast Florida area.
Projected media to be linked into the blog will be YouTube video content, Vimeo video content including some video production done by yours truly, Daily entries of sermon based goodies laden with wisdom and some whimsical wit provided by Pastor Tommy himself, a plethora of curriculum offered for those who like their Daily Bread and some insight into what it takes to plant a church when one is called to do so. Should be an interesting journey.
Tampa Mattress Liquidator decided they wanted more rankings in Search Engines like Google and Yahoo and of course I told them the old fall back "content is King" when it comes to searches. You can have all the gimmicks you want but bottom line is you can't search for something that isn't there, period. We had began the Bedahoilcs website design the year prior, but due to lack of content the site was seriously lacking in searchable keywords and content, overall it neededa website redesign and it was just a year old.
The site design and development was not what had to be reworked, but rather the pathways for crawlers to move and the amount of content to allow them to crawl through. We added content for SEO purposes as well as for potential site visitors lending more info to the overall messaging of the companies offerings and setting a clear picture of what they sell, pricing and reasons why they offer a good alternative to retail pricing options.
Padgett Communications wanted content on their website, not just the content that would digest well in crawlers and robots to ultimately draw in an audience, but the kind of content that would hopefully keep a viewer, delighting in what they see and interact with. A way to show their complexity of offering in a simple and easy to understand function, allowing them to move deeper into the details of what the deliverable could and would be.
Amidst all the technical details that drive a client to your website and the result output detail that would have functional resolve, in the Padgett world, lived a really cool visual and interactive capability that could connect the hardware to the users using it. A way to keep focus and attention span at a high while driving audience response to a detailed level. Their product was interactive in nature and could be very interesting if the client was so inclined.
To show off the interactive and visually appealing nature of what could exist for any client, I created a virtual audience and screen showcase of business and fun event elements, a video wall with differing types of informational content and a device slider with video overview and device details/imagery. These elements help to show both sides of what is being offered, one that sits in the user hand and one that drives the content of the user interaction, both being very interactive and diverse but each needing it's own space to give the potential client a way to see and delight in the possibilities of what Padgett Communication has to offer.
